Laredo hoax-gate happened and it was a travesty how good people were taken in by the manipulation. Here is hoping the one’s who over-hyped and sensationalized this false story will end up, not only with egg on their faces, but disgraced by the American people.
The blogs & web sites that carried this story should issue a retraction, an apology and a full admission of all people involved in throwing this crap around.
It seems to me the story originated on a web site called the Examiner *dot* com, where it appears that people can post an opinion/blog or story they wrote. I notice when a story gets posted, it looks like a news article. In my opinion that is. Personally, I had reservations about some stories on the site in the past, and now I know why.
After seeing so many people who spread this hoax rely on this site as a credible source, I have to ask myself, “who on earth relies on this virtually unknown tabloid like the Examiner to use as the only credible source of information?”
Not that I am some kind of literary expert, but I would not have it as my only source for a huge news breaking story.
In the future, I plan to scrutinize every story that comes from this Examiner site, and I am not sure I will ever take them seriously again. However, I ask you not to rely on my assumptions. I suggest that everyone check it out, and form your own opinions.
I am coming up with my own set of rules to help combat this kind of stuff. Use them at your own discretion.
- Any post/article I read written by an author not willing to reveal their REAL name and photo should be scrutinized thoroughly
- If a sensational story comes across twitter or facebook or even drudge & its not from a big name news source, I plan to QUESTION it with BOLDNESS! My plan is to make it pass a litmus test over and over again.
- If anywhere in the text of the story there is a mention of “anonymous” or “unverifiable” people as the sources, or if it comes from a “secret memo” or “secret letter,” I won’t trust it.
- If it sounds too good to be true, I won’t put my full faith and trust in it.
- If it only comes from one obscure news source and many of the other blogs carrying the story are all linking to each other while linking back to that obscure source, I will not pass it on as credible, nor will I make a knee jerk reaction rush to judgment.
- If it does happen to link to a newspaper source (ie Houston Chronicle), I will CLICK THE LINK AND READ THE SUPPOSED SOURCE every time. I have found often times the link will be a slightly similar story or theme, but it wont really back up the original story.
- I will ALWAYS remember the progressives have a formula when they want to regulate something or control it. They are very clever at creating a crisis to make that thing look like it needs to be regulated. (i.e.Banks, HC, Auto industry, energy)
I do ask that everyone learn from this and pray we DO NOT FALL FOR THEIR MANIPULATIONS AGAIN.
It affects us all, and personally, I want to stop this madness.
